Occasionally, we have entered local homebrewing competitions. Beginning with our first in 1999, we have come out victorious in cooperation. All of the awards listed below were won by beers brewed by NSBC members, although we have to give large credit due to Aaron Lyon, who has won the majority of these prizes on his own.

1999 Rochester Mills Homebrew

At the largest competition in the State of Michigan, (with 380 entries in 22 categories) the North State Brewers' Co-op took home 3 awards. Two were claimed by "club" brews, and one by a member's brew.

• 1st Place - Porter the Mocha Porter Strikes Back!, score: 34
• 2nd place - English Style Bitter "The Queen is Dead" English Bitter, score: 30
• 3rd place - Flavored & Experimental Holiday Ginger Spiced Ale, score: 29

1999 Firkin Homebrew Competition:

• 2nd Place Porter
• 2nd Place English Bitter

2000 State Fair:

• 1st Place Brown Ale
• 2nd Place English Bitter
• 3rd Place Imperial Stout

2001 State Fair:

• 2nd Place Smoked Beer - Smoked Porter

2001 Rochester Mills:

• 2nd Place Stout
• 2nd Place Fruit Beer - Clementine Rye

2001 AHA National Homebrew Competition

• 1st Place Regional (Great Lakes) New Entrants Category - Oatmeal Stout
